Tiny tools

Small sums that are quicker done here than on the back of an envelope, and one button for when you do not know what you are looking for.

Cloth and finished size

How big a chart comes out at a given count, and how much cloth to cut for it.

Cut the cloth
13.1 × 13.1 in
33.4 × 33.4 cm
The design itself
7.1 × 7.1 in · 18.1 × 18.1 cm

The margin is counted on both sides, so 3 inches of bare cloth adds 6 to each measurement.

Threads from a picture

The shades nearest to a picture, in the order it actually uses them. The same reading the studio does when it traces a photograph — only the threads, not the chart.

A photograph, a painting, a leaf on the path. The threads nearest to it come back, in the order the picture actually uses them.

Somewhere in the woods

A thing on the shelf or a piece that has been written, chosen without looking. It is a small wood; you will come round again.
